Photo Caption reads as follows:

“Work clothes can be seen in the far right. The living quarters were not equipped with dining facilities, but had wooden desks, clothing boxes (not equipped, but stored in clothing bags), clothing bag shelves for the same number of passengers, raincoats stored on top of the clothing bags, dining equipment box, raincoat shelves (stored in clothing bags), blackboard, shoe rack (for two shoes per person), berths, and fixtures that were supposed to be made of metal to prevent fires.”

A 2024 Japanese TV historical program on Yamato was based around this photo, and was promoted with the following paragraph:

"A photo taken on the battleship Yamato has been found. In the dimly lit interior of the ship, 13 crew members are smiling. Yamato was the top secret of the Japanese Navy, and many of its documents have been disposed of, making photos of the inside of the ship extremely rare. The photo was left behind by one of the crew members, who had sealed it away with the words "not to be shared with anyone outside." After further analysis, it was found that the photo was taken in the kitchen. It was an unofficial snapshot, and it was revealed that three of the crew members were with Yamato at the end."
