Operation Ten-ichi-go, April 6-7, 1945

Yamato and her escorts execute a simultaneous turn to starboard early, at about 1230PM, just before the beginning of the USN attack.

Yamato appears to have just fired one of her guns at the planes - note the smoke above the ship - and the destroyer at upper left has just fired her 5" guns.

From the US Navy official account: "The carrier planes began their attacks in the early afternoon, scoring immediate bomb and torpedo hits on Yamato and sinking Yahagi and a destroyer. Three other destroyers were sunk over the next hour, as the Japanese continued to steam southwards."
