Yamato's salvo falls near either USS Fanshaw Bay or USS White Plains.

Note the ship barely visible on the horizon to the right of the splashes.

It was long erroneously believed to be a Japanese cruiser. However, recent study of the battle by Robert Lundgren indicates that it is in fact most likely the USN destroyer Samuel B. Roberts.
