Yamato Running Trials 1941

Many thanks to Ed Low of the Facebook IJN Page for this version of the famous photo of Yamato on her trials (colorized by Grant Arthur).

Ed also forwards the following quote from Vice-Admiral Niwata Shozo who was involved in Yamato's construction:

"The result was impressive and Yamato appeared off Tosa on 18 December 1941 to make her trial. On that day the sea was rough and a strong wind of 20m/s (44.7mph) from the southeast. Three submarine chasers that accompanied her dropped out of formation and proceeded to port to avoid the bad weather. But the huge ship of 70,000 tons did not roll at all and attended 27.4(27.46) knots with 153,000 (153,550) shp, an excellent achievement beyond imagination."
